All works were commisioned by Réseaux as part of their iConcerts (virtual internet concerts) series of Season 1 (2003), and were available on their homepage as free downloads.

Reséauxed by Lucky around 2007/8.

"Electro Music (electroacoustic, concrète, acousmatic… music) is still very much cutting-edge, even more than 60 years after its invention. More active than ever, it bubbles with energy and finds increased recognition on the global cultural scene. Concrete music (or musique concrète) turned 60 years old in 2008. Indeed, it was in 1948 that Pierre Schaeffer, then in charge of the Studio d'essai of the French national radio (ex-ORTF), realized that the floppy discs on which on-air recordings were etched allowed one to work on sound itself, therefore bestowing on the latter a new title, that of sound material. This sound material can be manipulated, treated and modulated according to the artist's experience and desires, all that in the studio, regardless of interpretation. At that point, the need to notate sounds disappears, as the music is directly realized, like a painting on canvas or a sculpture in stone."

"Composers Jean-François Denis, Gilles Gobeil and Robert Normandeau incepted Réseaux des arts médiatiques in 1991, in Montréal." "Since 1991, Réseaux has produced concerts with the biggest names in electroacoustic music as well as with young rising composers." "Réseaux's main mission is to publicly present the works realized by the artists and production groups active in the field of Electro music using an array of loudspeakers. The works in question can be acousmatic (tape music), mixed (tape and instruments), live (live electronics) or include an other art form, such as video, dance or installation art."

"In 2003, we started to present virtual concerts on our website, where the works commissioned by Réseaux are made available, with the composers' agreement."

*"Mr. Lucky is a veteran in the trade of music-blogging and sonic-sharity. He has created, murdered and survived no less than 13 music blogs since 2006, such as Orang Aural, Squeezo, Cut-Out, Border Music, Infinity in Sound, Cineville, Mr. Lucky and a thousand others, endowing the sharosphere with a million sounds of his choice just for the love of humanity. Currently he is profitably running a psychic hut for the mystic misfits of our era, his longest venture so far.

Mr. Lucky was not only an inspiration for the creation of Bravo Juju but has also been a supporter, an ally and a friend of the Ewing Clan almost since day one. We were thus very happy when one of his secretaries informed us that Mr. Lucky had accepted our little challenge: to make a selection of some of the music he had enjoyed the most in the Bravo catalogue for the past two years, and create a compilation to mark the anniversary - no limits whatsoever. But one needs limits, of course, and Lucky decided to restrict his selection to artists he discovered here over this 2-year span. In the end, he produced a fine, diverse, and very personalized collection of 16 tracks, to which he was also kind enough to add a brilliant cover.

We can't think of a better way to celebrate two years of Jujuness than to invite one of our readers/listeners to offer us this sort of selection/feedback. A warm thank you to Lucky for all the work.

There are no plans to murder J.R. yet."

[Lucky Psychic Hut, 2016; #053
- first posted by arboribus on his "Prostrate before a periwinkle" blog in 2007 as Vol. 3 of the "Future Queens" series]

arboribus' notes from 2007:
"From his well-deserved retirement Mr. Lucky has recently sent me a volume three Future Queens compilation. [...] This time the main theme is more tranquil and peaceful, with most of the artists coming with a singer/songwriter background, but sure it comes with some glances to the left and right of this main path as well. This is a great diversification of the first two compilations and expands our view on the field of female musicians and composers. I should say: This third part is essential in our collection. And, as Mr. Lucky assured me: Women not only conceived and performed the music on this virtual disc, they even enjoy listening to it.

Here's the tracklisting:"

03. Yoko Ono: Greenfield Morning I Pushed an Empty Baby Carriage... (1970)

LPH 052 - Future Queens Vol. 1 (Women in Music) (1977-2001)

[Lucky Psychic Hut, 2016; #052
- first posted at Border Music in 2007 as Vol. 1 of the "Future Queens" series]

notes from 2007:
"Arboribus and I decided to post some compilations about Women in Music.
I will start with the first compilation, and Arboribus explains our subject:

'(…) working on a compilation of music requires the setting up of at least one border: The separation line between the songs included and the ones excluded.

Therefore the compiler starts out with thinking about the criteria for in-/exclusion. Certainly the pool which we draw from is our subjective, personal music taste, but that leaves the field still too wide. The next question was, if we'd like the selection to be avantgardistic, folkloristic, or just rock+roll? We didn't want to erect a border fence between the genres, so you will find all these kind of approaches on this compilation. For my part, I can say, that I soon expanded the original triangle women-music-humor to women-music-power. In some way or another, I feel that all the songs I selected are having power in common, no matter if they are humorous, serious, or reflective.

While thinking about these practical questions, my mind raised some disturbing theoretical questions as well. What does it mean, if two men - like Lucky and me - are working on such a project in a post-women's-liberation-age? Is it just a nice gesture which is in accordance with the aims of women who fought for their emancipation? We might feel that way, and we'd like to understand it that way ourselves. We feel, that women are not only great singers and performers of classical music (in these two fields of musical activity women seem to be represented quite well), but also great composers, improvisers, and bandleaders (these fields are obviously still male-dominated). By concentrating on the latter field - without ignoring the 'traditional' female activity of singing - we want to promote this insight and provoke the listener's further interest in female composers and musicians. Yet, there is a 'however'…

In postcolonial theory western scholars often face a problem: If they speak in favor of the former colonized peoples and with the best political intentions, the intellectuals from 'third world'-countries still could complain: In the era of colonialism the westerners have deprived the colonized subjects of their voices. If the western scholars nowadays keep speaking in the name of the former colonized, they keep depriving them of their voices. The same can be applied to the history of gender relationship: If men nowadays speak in the name of women - even with the best intentions of emancipation - they create a male discourse again, and thus stick to the old patriarchal rule. I have no answer to this problem, I can only assert again, that we are not meaning to impose ourselves upon a female discourse. We'd be happy, if women would take over. We'd be happy if this music sampler would be the start of a dialogue rather than remain a male monologue. (…)'"

It's one single-track-compilation, made of 20 environmental recordings from Jean-Claude Roché, Walter Tilgner, Yannick Dauby etc. If anyone is able to provide a proper tracklist, please do so. Till then you have to simply listen. Enjoy.

Tracked by Lucky.
Thanks to Karl Lippegaus + Holger Czukay in the first place.

"One of the most important figures in the development of the electric guitar and studio recording techniques. Les Paul worked as a professional musician from his late teens, and was leading his own trio in New York City by the age of 21. After serving with Armed Forces Radio in World War Two, he became a staff musician with NBC radio in Los Angeles. His experimentation with guitars became a frenzy in the late 1940s, building the first solid-body electric guitar in 1946 and releasing a six-way overdub, "Lover," which became a hit for Capitol, as did its flip side, "Brazil." Les Paul's sound was like nothing before it: fast, multi-layered, and deep.

He married the singer Mary Ford (born Colleen Somerset) in 1949, and together they recorded some of the biggest hits of the 1950s: "How High the Moon," "Vaya con Dios," "The World is Waiting for the Sunrise," and "Mockin' Bird Hill." He overdubbed both his guitar work and her vocals, working almost exclusively in his home studio, using an 8-track tape deck he designed and built himself. Paul was a perfectionist, and his recordings sound better today than almost anything coming from major label studios of the same period. In fact, the legendary sound engineer Tom Dowd credited Les Paul for inspiring Atlantic Records to purchase one of the first commercially-produced 8-track recorders, on which many of the label's best-known records were recorded.

Paul and Ford divorced in 1963, and he retired from recording except for an occasional appearance. He cut a solo (overdub) album for London, "Les Paul Now," in 1968, and a collaboration with Chet Atkins in 1976. He returned to live work in 1984, appearing with a trio in New York City jazz clubs. In 1988, he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame for his influence as a player and engineer. He continued to perform live once at weekly, usually at the Iridium Club in Manhattan. [...]"
